Man Admits To Attacking Sir Alex Ferguson

A man has pleaded guilty to attacking Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson at a railway station in London.

Appearing at City of Westminster Magistrates' on Tuesday, Kevin Reynolds, 43, of no fixed abode, admitted to a charge of actual bodily harm, one of common assault and two public order offences.

The court heard how Reynolds attacked Sir Alex as he waited for his driver outside Euston station around 4pm on Monday. He punched him in the groin and also headbutted a police community support officer who tried to restrain him.

His defence counsel, Adeola Olowu, said that her client had been joking around and that he struck the Manchester United boss while shadow boxing.

However, magistrate Daphne Wickham, said: "I do not think Sir Alex Ferguson saw this as a joke."

Describing Reynolds as a "fighting drunk", she said that her powers of sentence, which allow for six months' imprisonment, were insufficient.

Reynolds was remanded in custody to appear before Southwark Crown Court for sentencing at a later date.
