Celebrity Chef's Brother Jailed For Heroin Possession
The brother of celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay has been jailed for 10 months for heroin possession on the resort island of Bali.
Ronald Ramsay (39) was also fined £351 by the Indonesian court. He was arrested in February outside a supermarket in Kuta. Police have stated that they seized 100 milligrams from him.
His lawyer Erwin Siregar said the sentence was too harsh as the heroin was only for personal use. Ramsay has not decided yet whether to file an appeal.
Indonesia imposes harsh penalties up to the death penalty for narcotic offences. Ramsay could have faced up to 10 years in jail under tough laws but the judges decided to be lenient after he pleaded guilty and expressed regret.
Gordon Ramsay said in an interview with Waitrose Food Illustrated magazine before the arrest: "It is hard dealing with Ronnie. He is a major responsibility. It is like having an 18-year-old to look after."
Gordon rose to international fame as Britain's top chef after starring in TV cooking shows 'Hell's Kitchen' and 'Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares'.
