Rhys' Parents In Fresh Appeal

The parents of murdered Merseyside schoolboy Rhys Jones have made a fresh appeal for information in the week of what would have been his 12th birthday.

Rhys was shot dead on August 22 by a teenage gunman on a bike as he walked home from playing football with friends in the car park of the Fir Tree car park in Croxteth, Liverpool.

Stephen and Melanie Jones made another television appeal for information about their son's murder on Wednesday.

Mrs Jones urged a man who called police around 11:10pm on the night of the murder to contact police again and also appealed for a woman who was driving a red car past the scene at the time to contact police.

Rhys' mother said: "The only reason we are here today is because we need help. We need the person who killed our son to be brought to justice to give us a bit of peace. We can't move on until that happens.

"I am pleading with that man who phoned to come forward."

Seventeen people have been arrested in connection with Rhys' murder. Twelve have been released on police bail, while another five have been released without charge and are now being treated as witnesses.
