Former Football Stars Escape Charges Over Limo Joyride

Two former England footballers who crashed a luxury car on a night out will not face criminal charges.

Former Newcastle United players Rob Lee, 38, and Warren Barton, 41, admitted taking the Mercedes E220 salon when the driver got out of the vehicle in Hackney Road, east London, last July.

The pair then smashed the car into a van and allegedly fled the scene.

However, they were told that they will not face any charges over the incident as they were due to answer bail on Tuesday.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: "Both men have been told that they face no further action. The victim did not want to pursue the matter."
