Teenager In Court Over Toddler's Death

A teenage boy has appeared in court charged with the murder of a toddler in North Yorkshire earlier this year.

The 22-month-old boy died from head injuries in hospital on May 17 after being taken there from a home on Maple Drive in Scarborough.

The 17-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has also been charged with two sexual offences.

He appeared before Scarborough magistrates on Thursday, where he was remanded in custody to appear before Scarborough Youth Court on Tuesday.

Father And Son Saved In Scarborough
A nine-year-old boy and his father were saved from drowning by RNLI lifeguards at South Bay, Scarborough on Saturday 2 July after getting swept out to sea by a rip current. The pair, from Glasgow, were spotted by one of the charity's lifeguards at 2.30pm, around half a kilometre outside the safe swim area marked by red and yellow flags.

Scarborough drowning tragedy victims named
A mother and her son who drowned in a tragic accident yesterday have been named as Kim Barrett, 33 and Luke Greenwood, 11. Coastguards are continuing to search for Ms Barrett's daughter, 13-year-old Aimee Greenwood.

Abu Hamza remanded in custody
The radical Muslim cleric Abu Hamza al-Masri has been remanded in custody at Bow Street Magistrates Court today. Abu Hamza, who faces a total of nine charges, appeared by videolink from Belmarsh prison. He was remanded in prison until July 23. The 46-year-old was arrested on May 27 on an extradition warrant served by the US government.

Man Charged With Rape OF 13-Year-Old Boy
A man has appeared in court charged with raping a 13-year-old boy in the toilets of a Manchester shopping centre. Police were called to the Spindles shopping centre in Oldham, Greater Manchester, around 16.35 on Monday afternoon following reports of an assault on a young teenager.
