Deal Or No Deal For Postal Union Chiefs?

Leaders of the postal workers' union are meeting today to discuss a deal to end the ongoing Royal Mail dispute.

The Communication Workers Union are to consider a deal aimed at averting further strike action.

Recent industrial action by postal workers have crippled deliveries across the country and reportedly cost Royal Mail more than £200 million.

The deal is understood to cover flexible working and pensions. It has also been reported that the deal includes a pay rise of 6.9% over two years.

However, neither Royal Mail nor the CWU has commented on the terms of the agreement.

If union officials support it, the union's 130,000 members will vote on the agreement in a postal ballot.

The deal was worked out on Friday, after Royal Mail was granted an injunction by the High Court in London, which ruled that scheduled rolling strikes were illegal.

However, wildcat strikes, which began after a 48-hour official strike ended last week, continued in London and Liverpool over the weekend.

It has also been reported that postal workers in Liverpool were continuing the unofficial strike action this morning.
