Teen Shot Dead In Sheffield
A 16-year-old boy has been shot dead in a recreation area in Sheffield.
The body of the boy, who has not yet been named, was found at the play area in the Burngreave area of the city on Wednesday night. It is understood that he was shot in the head.
Chief Superintendent Jon House said that they boy had not yet been formally identified, but confirmed that specialist officers were with his family. He said that help was needed from the local community in order to help identify the offenders.
He said: "The offenders are believed to be local and witnesses are asked to come forward and speak to police officers
"It is only with the help of the community, who are obviously very shocked by this crime, that we will be able to bring those responsible to justice.
"Any information will be treated confidentially and appropriate protection will be offered to witnesses who assist."
Mr House added that gun crime is "very rare" in Sheffield, with only one other fatal shooting occurring in the city in the last 18 months.
Last night's shooting happened less than a mile from where a taxi driver was shot dead in March.
Younis Khan, a 53-year-old father-of-five, was shot as he drove along Scott Road in the Pitsmoor area of Sheffield.

Sheffield Murder Accused Remanded
An 18-year-old man accused of the murder of 16-year-old Jonathan Matondo in last week has been remanded in custody. Negus Nelson, of Margate Drive in the city, appeared before Sheffield Magistrates' Court on Tuesday. An application for bail was refused and Mr Nelson was remanded in custody to appear before Sheffield Crown Court on October 30.

Policewoman shot dead on daughter's birthday
The policewoman shot dead on Friday in Bradford was gunned down on her four-year-old daughter's birthday. Pc Sharon Beshenivsky, 38, was shot in the chest as she answered a call to a travel agents shop in Bradford. Her colleague PC Teresa Milburn, 37, was wounded in the shoulder.

Two Women Found Dead In Sheffield
The bodies of a mother and daughter have been found at a house in Hemsworth, in Sheffield. The discovery was made by police at an address on Ironside Road at 0740 BST. A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is being questioned by police. The area around the property has been sealed off.
