Police Drugs Operation Targets Staffordshire

Police raids have netted 19 people in a series of dawn raids related to suspicion of supplying Class A drugs.

A total of 16 addresses were raided by 350 officers in Stoke-on-Trent and North Staffordshire.

The swoops were part of Staffordshire Police's Operation Nemesis and followed months of detailed investigation and planning by the force's Major Crime Unit.

A 20th person, a man, was arrested on suspicion of offences linked to counterfeit clothing and money laundering.

All of those arrested are being held in police custody and will be interviewed later.

The arrests come just eight weeks after a similar operation in the county, which led to 21 arrests.

Chief Superintendent Jane Sawyers, Commander of Stoke-on-Trent Division, said: "Operation Nemesis sent shockwaves through the local criminal drugs network in September, and it's back with a vengeance today.

"We said in September that there would be more arrests to follow, and we've been true to our word.

"Operation Nemesis highlights our determination to bring major drug dealers to justice.

"We hope it sends a clear message to the public: we know drug dealing worries you and we are tackling it.

"We've executed around 70 warrants in the city since the arrest day in September, and there are definitely more to come."
