A 22-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the death of a student from north Wales, who died after suffering multiple injuries in a street attack in Liverpool.

The 24-year-old was on a night out in the city centre when he is believed to have become involved in a row and been assaulted.

He was taken to the Royal Liverpool Hospital after an ambulance was called to the scene, but he died from his injuries.

Police were alerted to the incident by ambulance crews.

Police have suggested that the victim, who has not yet been named, may have known his killer.

A post-mortem is due to take place.

A Merseyside Police spokesperson said: "The student had spent the evening with friends at the Medication Club in Wolstenholme Square.

"After leaving the venue he became involved in an argument and while walking through a tunnel at nearby Turnage Road."

The man who was arrested is from Aigburth and he is being questioned on suspicion of murder.

Forensic examinations are continuing at the scene, which remains sealed off.

Officers are also visiting businesses in the area to ask for any CCTV footage, which could help in the case.
