Teenager Held Over London Gang Killing

A 'turf war' in London's east end - which resulted in the murder of a teenager - has now led police to arrest a young person for the killing.

Police investigating the murder last week, thought to be in a suspected row over gang territory, have arrested a 17-year-old.

Etem Celebi was shot dead at close range last week while sitting on a wall with friends on an estate in Hackney, east London.

Scotland Yard said the suspect is being held at an east London police station.

The 17-year-old died in his parents' arms after being approached by two youths on the Smalley Close Estate last Wednesday.

Witnesses reported hearing up to five shots and then a pause and then two more in the cold-blooded attack.

Earlier police said they were hunting two hooded men in their teens or early 20s over the shooting.

Residents said the estate had in recent weeks been a battleground between rival gangs fighting a turf war.

The death of the youngster, said to be a talented footballer was the 23rd teenager to die in a knife or gun killing in London this year.
