DJ 'Faces Jail' For Breaking Restraining Order

DJ Andy Kershaw may face jail after admitting breaking a restraining order involving his ex-girlfriend.

The 48-year-old BBC Radio 3 presenter pleaded guilty to breaching the order, which bans him from seeing Juliette Banner, in Peel on the Isle of Man on November 2.

Inspector Michael Musson, prosecuting, told the court that Miss Banner had approached her and her new partner, prison officer, Jim Imrie, as they went for a coffee following a walk up Peel Hill. Miss Banner described Kershaw's behaviour as "menacing and provocative".

Kershaw also admitted "causing needless anxiety to others" by sending abusive text messages to Miss Banner as well as being drunk and disorderly outside Peel police station on November 7.

The case has been adjourned in order for psychiatric and social inquiry reports to be prepared.

High Baliff Michael Moyle said: "Prison is a real possibility. When we meet on January 15 it might be advisable to have your bags packed.

"If you wish not to have any further dealings with your children, carry on in the way you're doing."

He also warned Kershaw that he faced spending Christmas behind bars if he breached his bail conditions.

Kershaw is due to be sentenced at the High Baliff's Court in Douglas on January 15.

Kershaw had spent a week in prison before appearing in court last week for breaching his bail conditions by breaking a curfew.

He had been given a three-month suspended sentence in October after pleading guilty to harassing Miss Banner.
