Writers' Strike Halts Golden Globe Awards

Long-running industrial action by Hollywood writers has claimed another 'casualty' with the glamorous Golden Globe Awards ceremony being axed.

The star-studded event was scheduled for January 13 but has been scrapped due to the writers' strike.

It was feared that many of the high profile actors from the Hollywood set would boycott the event in support of the writers who are campaigning over the pay they receive for work distributed over the internet.

The Globes ceremony - widely viewed as the precursor for the prestigious Oscars - will now be replaced with an hour-long press conference where awards will be dished out.

The cancellation of the Golden Globes marks the latest event to fall foul of the nine-week-old strike by about 10,500 members of The Writers Guild of America against the major film and TV studios.

The walkout has already stopped production on all scripted prime-time TV series and derailed several high-profile movie projects as well as impacted on Broadway stage shows.
