Kent Boy Killed By Bus As Three Die In Scottish Smash

A road crash tragedy has claimed the life of an 11-year-old boy who died after being hit by a bus in north Kent.

Emergency teams were called to the scene in Dartford after a report that a child had been knocked over by a bus, police said.

A spokeswoman confirmed that the schoolboy, as yet unamed, died at the scene.

Roads in the surrounding area remain closed and the incident is being investigated by the serious collision investigation unit.

Appealing for witnesses, the spokeswoman said the incident in Princes Road happened just before 7.30am on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, it has emerged that a woman and two children have been killed in a car crash in Scotland.

It took place on the A92 Inverbervie to Low Northwater Bridge road in Aberdeenshire with the woman and the girls, all from the Mearns area, all in a southbound car which was involved in a collision with a northbound car.

A Grampian Police spokesman said: "This is a great tragedy for the families involved and our thoughts are very much with them."

The road was expected to be closed for a considerable time and diversions have been set up and drivers are asked to avoid the area.

Ch Insp Tom Forrester, of Grampian Police, said: "Today we have had the first fatal road traffic collision of 2008 in Grampian, and it is particularly distressing that it involves three people, a female driver and two children.

"The year could not have got off to a worse start on our roads and I would urge drivers, especially in the wintry conditions we may well face over the next couple of months, to be extra careful when they are behind the wheel."
