More Time To Quiz Man Over Teen's Stabbing

Police investigating the knife attack that left a 14-year-old schoolgirl fighting for her life have been granted extra time to continue questioning a man in connection with the stabbing.

Jessica Knight, 14, suffered multiple wounds after she was stabbed while walking through Astley Park in Chorley, Lancashire on Monday evening.

She remains critically ill in Royal Manchester Children's hospital, after undergoing five hours of emergency surgery at Chorley Hospital after the attack.

Police will be able to continue questioning the man, who was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, for a further 36 hours.

Man, 24, Stabbed To Death
A 24-year-old man has died after being stabbed during a fight. It is understood the victim, named as Adrian Young, was attacked by a group of males at around 4.45pm on Tuesday in Cromwell Road, Croydon. One of the gang was armed with a knife. Emergency services were called to a road near to where the stabbing occurred.

Police Shoot Man Following Stabbing Incident In Hersden
A man has been shot by police after being called to attend an incident in Hersden where a woman was stabbed. Police initially attended the scene at around 11.20pm on Sunday followed by firearms officers and police negotiators. The man and woman, who are members of the same family, are both in a critical condition in hospital.

Third arrest over Sunderland stabbing
A third teenager has been arrested in connection with the fatal stabbing of a young father outside his home in Sunderland. Kevin Johnson, 22, was stabbed outside his home in Partick Road in the city, in the early hours of Saturday morning. Two teenage boys, aged 16 and 17, were arrested on Saturday, while an 18-year-old man was arrested on Sunday.

Third person arrested over Blackpool stabbing
A third person has been arrested in connection with the fatal stabbing of a teenager in Blackpool. Sam Brown, 16, was stabbed outside his home in Cockerham Walk in the early hours of Monday morning. Neighbours attempted to save him, but he had died by the time paramedics arrived. He suffered a single stab wound to the chest.

Further Arrest in Rhys Murder Investigation
Police investigating the murder of Merseyside schoolboy Rhys Jones have made another arrest. A 20-year-old man has now been arrested in connection with Rhys' murder, Merseyside Police confirmed on Wednesday. Earlier, it was confirmed that police have been granted more time to continue questioning eleven people arrested in connection with the case.
