British Snowboarder Killed In France

A snowboarder from Leeds has been killed in an accident in the French Alps.

It is understood that 32-year-old Phillip Tate, from Roundhay, died after falling 80ft down a crevasse on the Valle Blanche, near Chamonix, on Sunday morning.

He had been snowboarding on a 8,500ft-high off-piste stretch and it is believed that the accident happened when he removed his snowboard to walk across a bridge, which then collapsed under him.

He is reported to have been with his partner and two friends when the accident happened.
