Two Men Rescued From Collapsed Mosque

Two men have been rescued after they were trapped in a south London mosque when a ceiling fell in on them.

The incident happened shortly after 9am, and approximately 40 firefighters took part in the recovery operation.

Dariusz Naidek, 28, a Polish builder living in Tooting Bec, was freed from the Balham mosque by firefighters but his condition is not yet known.

The other man, who suffered cuts and bruises, was freed before the two-hour operation to rescue Mr Nadiek began.

A suspect package found in a courtroom has lead to the evacuation of the Old Bailey in London. According to report a package was found in court 11, where Ukrainian student Pavlo Lapshyn was being sentenced for murder and plotting to cause mosque explosions.

Police have defended the length of time taken to prosecute radical Muslim cleric Abu Hamza al-Masri. Egyptian-born Hamza, 47, was jailed for seven years on charges of inciting hatred and racial hatred.

Hamza found guilty of race hate charges
Radical Muslim cleric Abu Hamza al-Masri has been sentenced to seven years in prison after being found guilty of soliciting to murder and race hate charges at the Old Bailey. Egyptian-born Hamza, 47, was found guilty of 11 of the 15 charges against him.

BBC defends suicide bomb plotline for 'Spooks'
The BBC has defended its decision to run a drama programme in which an Islamic suicide bomber was recruited at a fictional Birmingham mosque. Following the transmission of 'Spooks' on BBC THREE on June 2, vandals sprayed the words 'kill the suicide bombers' on a white outside wall of Central Birmingham Mosque in Belgrave Road.

Man Rescued From Hostel Fire
Firefighters have rescued a man trapped by a fire at a hostel in St Pancras. Emergency services were called to Birkenhead Street on Tuesday afternoon to reports of a fire on the first floor of the hostel. Fifteen people had escaped the building before firefighters arrived, however one person was unaccounted for.
