Procol Harum Singer Wins Royalties Case

Gary Brooker, the lead singer of Procol Harum, has won his court battle to reclaim full royalty rights to the band's massive worldwide hit 'A White Shade Of Pale'.

Brooker, who founded Procol Harum in 1966, had taken his case to the Court of Appeal after organist Matthew Fisher successfully claimed that he co-wrote the music of 'A White Shade Of Pale'.

Fisher, who left Procol Harum in 1969, won his case at the High Court on December 20, 2006 and was awarded 40% of the song's royalties.

However, today's ruling means that he will receive no money from past or future royalties.

'A Whiter Shade of Pale' was first released in May 1967. It reached Number One after two weeks of release and remained there for six weeks. It reached Number 5 in the US charts and sold over 1,000,000 copies.
