Two Arrested In Beach Body Parts Case

Police investigating the death of a woman, whose severed head and hands were discovered on a Scottish beach earlier this week, have arrested two men.

The woman has now been identified as Jolanta Bledaite, 35. She is originally from Alytus in Lithuania.

Two young sisters discovered her severed head in a plastic bag on the beach in Arbroath, Angus, on the east coast of Scotland on Tuesday. Her hands were discovered later. The Coastguard also found "possible human material" on the shoreline at Carnoustie on Wednesday night and police are examining this as well.

Ms Bledaite had been living in Brechin in Angus and had been reported missing by her employers.

Police said that she had been identified due to the "phenomenal" response from the public.

The two men who were arrested are aged 19 and 40. Both are also from Lithuania. Tayside Police said that they had been taken into custody, but had not been charged.

A flat in South Esk Street in Brechin has been sealed off and is being searched by police. It is reported to be in Earlsden House, a building which is believed to house migrant workers from Eastern Europe.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on: 01307 302200 or Crimestoppers anonymously on: 0800 555 111.
