Gas Explosion At Leeds Pub

Five people are in hospital following a gas explosion at a derelict pub in Leeds.

Emergency services were called to the disused Florence Nightingale in Beckett Street at approximately 1.30pm today.

West Yorkshire Police say that five casualties are receiving hospital treatment but their injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

A police spokeswoman has said that more than 35 fire-fighters and gas officials are at the scene and an investigation is underway.

It is reported that a gas leak caused the explosion.

The explosion has not affected services at St James' Hospital.

The public are being told to steer clear of the area as gas canisters on site could cause more explosions.
