Arrests Made In Tamil Tiger Investigation

Counter-terrorism officers have arrested three men as part of a long-running investigation into the Tamil Tigers.

Scotland Yard say that raids took place at residential and business properties in Newtown, Powys, Mitcham, south-west London, and Surrey early this morning.

A spokesperson said that two men aged 39 and 46 were arrested at separate addresses in Newtown, and a third, aged 33, was held in Mitcham.

The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (Tamil Tigers) have been in operation from the early 1970's. They aspire to create the state of Tamil Ealam in the northern and Eeastern portions of Sri Lanka.

The concept of Eelam has been a central issue in the Sri Lankan conflict for more than 50 years.
