Stars Win Privacy Damages For Holiday Snaps

Three high profile stars have won legal damages for the publication of photos without their knowledge.

British actor Hugh Grant, his former partner and actress Liz Hurley, and her current husband Arun Nayar, Chief Executive Officer of Direction Software Solutions, have accepted £58,000 damages for invasion of privacy of holiday photographs taken of the group on holiday at the Maldives.

Big Pictures (UK) and Eliot Press SARL will pay the damages and have apologised "unequivocally" and also agreed to pay a portion of the legal fees.

None of the stars were in attendance for the settlement at the High Court in London.

Laura Tyler, solicitor for Mr Grant, Ms Hurley and Mr Nayer, said that the photographs were "taken covertly without the claimants' knowledge".

She added that the claimants had been "most upset to have their privacy invaded".

Big Pictures has recently been embroiled in another court case involving Harry Potter author JK Rowling.

Ms Rowling won a Court of Appeal case for intrusion into her family life after Big Pictures supplied a photo of herself, her husband and son spending time together to the Express Newspapers.
