Mosley Wins Confidence Vote In Paris

Max Mosley has defied the odds to stay on as President of the Federation Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA). During the Extraordinary General Assembly (EGA) held in Paris today, the FIA members voted on a motion of confidence in the FIA President. Mr Mosley won the vote by a majority of 103 to 55 votes, there were 7 abstentions and 4 invalid votes. Voting in the EGA was made by secret ballot and was supervised by an external Huissier de Justice. Bernie Ecclestone, owner of Formula One Holdings said before the vote that Mr Mosley should "stand down out of responsibility for the institution he represents" and that it "was regretful" he had not made that decision. It was alleged by a newspaper report in April that Mr Mosley had engaged in a "Nazi-style orgy" with prostitutes. Mr Mosely has denied Nazi connotations. He is understood to be "delighted" with the result.

Everton Manger Wins Damages

Everton FC Manager David Moyes has won damages at the High Court over an allegation made by England Striker Wayne Rooney. The sum - which has not been made public - is being paid to Mr Moyes by Rooney, co-author Hunter Davies and publisher HarperCollins. In the footballer aces' autobiography 'Wayne Rooney - My Story So Far', Moyes is accused of a "serious breach of trust towards a younger player under his management". Representing Moyes, solicitor Mr Parladorio, said the allegation was "wholly untrue". The allegations centred round Moyes supposedly leaking the contents of a private conversation about the stars intention to leave Everton. Moyes said in a statement that he was "glad" the issue had been resolved and that his name was "fully cleared". It has been reported that Moyes will donate the money to the Everton Former Players Foundation. Rooney's autobiography was published in August 2006.
