Stab Victim Was Awaiting Trial On Porn Charges

A man who was fatally stabbed in Carmarthenshire at the weekend was awaiting trial on child porn charges, it has been reported.

Forty-nine-year old Geoffrey Harries, a former police constable, appeared in court in May, to face charges of possessing more than 2,000 indecent images of children.

Mr Harries was stabbed in the Dythel Park area of Trimsaran at around 1.45am on Saturday, but later died from his injuries in hospital.

It is thought that Mr Harries had challenged someone he believed had been interfering with his car.

A man, believed to be in his 30s, has been arrested in connection with the incident.

Police had been granted an extension of 36 hours to continue to question the man yesterday.

A Dyfed-Powys Police spokeswoman said: "Police have launched a murder investigation after a man was killed in Trimsaran.

"A man has been arrested in connection with the killing and is being questioned by poice."

Mr Harries had worked within the Carmarthenshire division of the Dyfed-Powys Police.

It is alleged that he had 2,082 images on his computer when he was employed by the police.

It is understood that nine of the images of the computer were classed as level five, which is the most serious.

Mr Harries appeared at Cardiff Magistrates' Court in May accused of 15 offences of making indecent images of children between May 2005 and December 2007 and one charge of possessing indecent images from 26 November last year.

Mr Harries resigned from Dyfed-Powys police force on March 26 this year.

Mr Harries, who had been released on bail by District Judge John Charles, was due to stand trial in June.
