Family To Celebrate Funeral Of 'Gentle Giant'

The funeral will take place today of murdered teenager Jimmy Mizen.

Jimmy, who had just turned 16, was slashed across the throat with a shard of glass in the Three Cooks store on Burnt Ash Hill in Lee, on 10 May.

It is understood Jimmy, had gone out to buy his first lottery ticket after celebrating his 16th birthday the previous day, died from fatal injuries after being stabbed in the neck.

He was due to sit his GCSE's in St Thomas More Catholic Comprehensive in Eltam.

The service will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes church in Lee, followed by the burial at nearby Grove Park Cemetery.

Family and friends of the schoolboy will wear brightly coloured clothes and listen to songs of his favourite band Coldplay.

Jimmy's school friends will form a guard of honour as the coffin arrives.

The service is being billed as "a celebration of his life".

It is reported that Jimmy's mother, Margaret, recently found a book which had belonged to her son, in which he wrote: "You do not have to like everybody, but you do have to respect them."

Mrs Mizen said her son was "the loveliest, gentlest giant" who "was loved by everyone".

More than 500 people attended a memorial service for Jimmy last month.

Jake Fahri, 19, of Milborough Crescent, Lee, has been charged with his murder.
