Man Jailed For 'Shaking' Baby
A man has been jailed for nine and a half years for shaking a baby so hard it was left with severe brain damage.
Donald Loudon, 26, from Newmains, North Lanarkshire, had blamed the child's mother for the infant's appalling injuries, however, Loudon was convicted at the High Court in Glasgow of assaulting the baby between June 14 and August 28, 2006.
He was also found guilty of kicking the child's mum when she was pregnant.
The two-month-old child who cannot be named, suffered multiple fractures, some of which were inflicted by "rotational force" - when Loudon twisted the baby's leg.
During the trial, the court heard that scans of the baby showed "very extensive" and "irreversible" brain damage.
Consultant paediatrician Dr Andrew Watt said he expected the child would be "severely disabled" as a result of the attack.
The baby suffered fractures to the ribs, legs and arm.
Judge Ian Peeble QC said Loudon had "taken his bad temper" out on the child.
The baby's mother said the sentence was "not long enough".
The court also heard evidence via video-link from the infant's older sister who said she had seen Loudon shaking the child.
The mother called Loudon a "dirty liar" for trying to shift blame to her and said that Loudon had a "short and violent temper".

Missing Baby Found 'Safe And Well'
A nine-month-old baby girl who was reported missing from her home in Glouchestershire on Monday has been found safe and well. Maylayah Delaney had been reported missing by her mother shortly before lunch-time on Monday. Police have confirmed that a man from the West Midlands is helping them with their inquiries.

Woman Charged With Murdering Baby
A woman has been charged with the murder of 10-month-old Chloe Sutherland, it has been reported. A 35-year-old woman, said to be the little girl's mother, made no plea or declaration during an appearance at Edinburgh Sheriff Court today. She has been remanded in custody.

Court case baby makes first visit home
Severely disabled Charlotte Wyatt has been allowed home from the hospital for the first time since she was born two years ago. Charlotte’s father, Darren Wyatt, collected her from St Mary’s hospital in Portsmouth today to take her home for a brief visit with her mother, Debbie. Two members of staff from the hospital supervised the visit.
