Arrest Over Rubbish Tip Body

A man has been arrested in connection with the death of a 45-year-old musician.

The remains of John McAnish were found at the Avondale rubbish tip, near Falkirk following an extensive search by police on June 12.

Police had scoured 10,000 tonnes of rotting household waste and commercial refuse before they found a man's body.

A 40-year-old who has been held is due to appear at Stirling Sheriff Court on August 6.

Mr McAnish, a father of two, went missing in April and was last seen alive walking in the Stirling area.

His family said in a statement that they had been through a "traumatic emotional rollercoaster" and said his loss has been "hard to bear".

"We are saddened and at the same time relieved to have John back.

"This will allow us as a family to give him the respect and dignity in death which has been so sadly lacking.

"It is our sincere hope that justice will now run its course," they said.

Police spoke to more than 150 witnesses during the course of the investigation.

Detective Inspector Gordon Crossan said after Mr McAnish's body was found that "it has been a torrid three months of uncertainty for his family and I thank them for their strength, patience and support throughout this difficult period".

Mr McAnish has two daughters, Zoe and Hayley.
