CCTV Footage 'Indistinct' In Rail Attack Hunt

Police say that CCTV footage of an incident where a woman was thrown onto live railway tracks in Kent has proved "to be of no use".

Linda Buchanan, 58, of Horton Kirby, was thrown onto the tracks by two youths, whom she had asked to stop smoking.

She was admitted to hospital with burns and a suspected broken collar bone after the attack at Farningham Road railway in Kent on Wednesday. Mrs Buchanan landed near the 750-volt live rail.

She was rescued by other commuters shortly before a train pulled in.

The 58-year-old senior managing consultant at DBM in London, was waiting for the 7.12am train to London Victoria on Wednesday when the incident happened.

A British Transport Police (BTP) spokeswoman said the pictures were "indistinct" and showed only "the backs of heads".

BTP said the CCTV tape had produced no facial images of the two suspects and officers were now carrying out the painstaking task of looking at pictures from cameras at all other stations along the same line in London Victoria.

Ms Buchanan has told the BBC that she "was shocked by the whole experience" but "it could have been a lot worse".

One of the males is described as being a white male, in his mid 20s, about 6ft tall, of stocky build. He had short-cropped brown hair, was wearing beige shorts, a green round-necked t-shirt and trainers.

The second male was also white, in his early 20s, with a medium build, bright red shorts and a dark top.

It is understood an off-duty policeman had chased the two men as they fled the scene.

A neighbour of Mrs Buchanan says she is "too traumatised" to talk and that she is being comforted by one of her grown up sons.
