Police Hunt Drug Thieves

A large quantity of potentially fatal drugs have been stolen during a burglary at a health centre, police say.

Police were informed that thieves had forcibly entered the Irlam Health Centre in Salford and removed a large wall-mounted cabinet containing medication earlier this morning.

The thieves then stole a large quantity of drugs from the cabinet.

A statement released by Greater Manchester Police said: "Among the drugs stolen were 800 Sevredol tablets which contain high dosages of morphine, 100 capsules of Temazepam, 100 tablets of Dexamphetamine which is a strong stimulate and an unknown amount of pain relief patches."

The medication is taken by prescription only and of any of the tablets or capsules are taken incorrectly or by a child it could prove fatal.

Sevredol can used in the treatment of cancer and Temazepam is prescribed to people who have difficulty sleeping or to reduce anxiety.

Police are appealing to anyone who has information about the burglary to come forward.

Members of the public are warned not to take any of the drugs if they are offered.

Anyone with information should call Salford CID on 0161 856 5097.
