Bull Run Ends In Shooting

There were scenes worthy of the Pamplona Bull run yesterday as two crazed animals went on a terrifying rampage in a usually quiet seaside town.

The two bulls - which broke free from a trailer which had brought them for slaughter from Caldey Island off the Welsh coast to the seaside town of Tenby, Pembrokeshire - even tossed one man into the air and left another hanging off a cliff as he escaped the beasts.

The young bulls, which had been frightened by their journey, ran loose for more than three hours before being shot dead by police marksmen.

Paul Edmundson, a 25-year-old barman, was attacked by one of the half-ton animals. He said: "We tried to cut off the route of escape for the bulls when one came through a hedge.

"It dropped its head to gore me and I thought: I''m not being hit by one of those horns,' so I actually sat down between the horns. It flipped me into the air and into a hedge.

"I've got a few cuts and scrapes from landing in the hedge and a bit of a bruised bottom from where it hit me," he said.

Another man was left hanging off a cliff to avoid being gored and had to be rescued by police.

A spokesman for Dyfed-Powys Police said: "All possible options were considered in consultation with the vet.

"But considering the danger they posed to the public, armed officers had to destroy them," he said.
