Man Sentenced To Life Over Boxer Murder

A man found guilty of the murder of a former champion boxer has been sentenced to life in prison. Kanyanta Mulenga, 23, from Putney, south-west London was told he must serve a minimum of 28 years for the shooting of James Oyebola, 46. The ex-heavyweight champion was shot in the neck at Chateau 6 in Fulham, south-west London, in July 2007. The court heard Mulenga had previously been jailed for 30 months in September for possessing heroin and crack cocaine with intent to supply.

Compensation For Child Sex Abuse Victims

Victims of child sex abuse on Pitcairn Island will be able to apply for compensation, the Foreign & Commonwealth Office announced today. The abuse was revealed in 1999 and led to an extensive police investigation and trials resulting in the conviction of eight men. Foreign Office Minister, Gillian Merron, announced the compensation scheme for the victims of child sex abuse identified during Operation Unique. She said: "It is right that we have established a mechanism to offer compensation to the victims of the past child sex abuse on Pitcairn. We are working closely with the UK's Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority to ensure the levels of compensation are linked to the amounts awarded in the UK. This is a significant step and it is the right thing to do."

New Olympic Village Designs Unveiled

New designs that show what the Olympic Village will look like after the Games have been unveiled along with the latest images of progress being made on site. More than 300 workers are now on the Olympic Village site putting in place its foundations. Concrete columns are being inserted into the soil to reinforce the ground where the first blocks of the Village will sit. The latest designs show how the housing units may look, as well as courtyard areas, pedestrian walkways and the new open spaces that will be created in the Village. The Village will accommodate athletes during the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Kids Targeted In Gwent Alco-Haul
Gwent Police have confiscated more than 82 litres of alcohol from underage drinkers in a small area of Rogerstone during just two nights. Newport West Neighbourhood Policing Team seized the alcohol after responding to 31 reports of antisocial behaviour in the Afon Village area.
