Man Found Dead In London Street
A murder inquiry has been launched following the discovery of a man who was found stabbed in south London. The victim, aged 21, was discovered in Lebanon Street in Wandsworth - a residential area - at around 11.30pm last night. It is understood the Serious Crime Squad is investigating the incident.
Woman Dies In Go-Karting Accident
A woman has died of "very serious injuries" as a result of a motorised go-kart accident. The 33-year-old woman was taken to hospital at Shrewsbury after the incident at Ffordd-y-Cain, Llanfyllin, Powys last Friday. Witnesses are asked to contact police at Welshpool on: 0845 330 2000.
Marriage Visa Age To Rise
The age at which someone can apply for a marriage visa will increase from 18 to 21 from the end of this month, the Government announced today. From 27 November both parties in a marriage will have to be 21 before a marriage visa can be issued. Raising the age is just one part of the Government's work to crackdown on forced marriage and on those who attempt to abuse the marriage visa route. The changes being made to the marriage visa route are part of a package of measures being brought in today to deliver the biggest shake-up to immigration and border security in 45 years.
Appointment To Criminal Cases Review Commission
The Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice today announced the appointment by Her Majesty of Richard Foster CBE as Chair of the Criminal Cases Review Commission (CCRC). The appointment is for five years from 1 November 2008. Richard Foster CBE was Chief Executive (Director General) of the Crown Prosecution Service from 2001 to 2007 and is a trustee of the Refugee Council. He was Director, of the Welfare to Work Delivery, responsible for the New Deals, from 1998 to 2001 and prior to that a Director of the Employment Service in the Department for Education and Employment. He was First Secretary (Stockholm) with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office from 1981 to 1984 and prior to that was Principal Private Secretary to the Minister of State, Department of Employment.
Stewart Milne Group Announces Redundancies
An Aberdeen-based housebuilder has announced redundancies, BBC Scotland has revealed. The Stewart Milne Group has announced 44 redundancies across its UK businesses. Meanwhile 73 further jobs are at risk. It is understood the company was forced to make the cuts due to a further drop in house sales. Mr Milne – the chairman of Aberdeen Football Club – founded Stewart Milne Group in 1975, and it has become one of the UK’s leaders in the field. Earlier this year the company already announced it would be losing 300 jobs.

CofE Gay Marriage Outlawed
Performing gay marriage ceremonies in the Church of England and Church in Wales is to be banned, the government has announced. The move comes as a result of new 'opt-in' laws which will allow some religious institutions to perform marriage ceremonies for same-sex couples.

Forced Marriage Becomes Criminal Offence
Forcing someone to marry against their will is now a criminal offence. New legislation introduced today by the government is designed to help people in England and Wales. It also applies to UK nationals overseas who are at risk of becoming the victim of a forced marriage.

Bangladesh Court Orders Parents To Release Daughter
An NHS doctor who was allegedly held captive by her family in Bangladesh is due to arrive home in the UK later. The parents of Dr Humayra Abedin, a 33-year-old trainee GP, were ordered to give her back her passport, after intervention by the courts and the British Foreign Office.
