Prisoner Ordered To Pay £95k 'Proceeds Of Crime'
A man convicted of growing cannabis has been ordered to pay almost £100,000 at a Proceeds of Crime Hearing at Bolton Crown Court.
Michael Nixon, 43, of Hill Lane, Blackley, was this week ordered to pay £95,300 - the value of his home and Jaguar V6 car.
Nixon was previously sentenced to 45 months imprisonment, after pleading guilty to three counts of being concerned in the production of cannabis.
Meanwhile, his brother, Neil Nixon, 40, of Mansfield Road, Blackley, was also previously jailed for 18 months - after admitting the same charges.
The pair were charged after warrants were carried out at three addresses on Albert Avenue, Prestwich, an address on Mansfield Road, Blackley and Hill Lane, Blackley in 2006.
Inspector Charlotte Cadden, from the Intelligence Unit, said: "Today's result shows our investigations don't stop once a defendant has been sentenced.
"We are determined to pursue criminals who benefit financially from crime and ensure that not only are they convicted, but we will do everything in our power to make sure they cannot benefit from their illegal gains either now or in the future.
"We have been awarded the value of Michael Nixon's house and car, which he has been able to fund from his criminality."
She added: "I hope this sends a stern warning to others that crime does not pay.
"I would also like to reassure residents in Bury that this money will be reinvested in the fight against drug-related crime."

Funding Boost Of £455m For Equal Pay Claims
Funding of £455m will be awarded to councils in England to allow back payments relating to thousands of equal pay claims from women workers. In a move to speed up long-term commitments to achieving equal pay for all council workers, local government minister John Healey gave the go-ahead to 34 councils to raise the money through capitlisation.

Report highlights gender pay gap in the UK
Women are still being paid less than men, thirty years after the introduction of equal pay legislation, a new report has found. The government-commissioned "Shaping a Fairer Future" report from the Women and Work Commission found that women are earning 17% less than men. This was "bad for women and bad for Britain", the report said.

Parliament cleaners receive pay rise
Cleaners at the Houses of Parliament are to receive a pay rise, after settling their long-running pay dispute. The workers' rate of pay will increase in stages from £5.20 to £6.70 per hour by next January, under the terms of a deal agreed with the Transport and General Workers Union.
