Gurkha Army Soldier Dies In Afghanistan
A British Army soldier, who died in Afghanistan, has been named by the Ministry of Defence (MoD). Yubraj Rai, 28, from Khotang in eastern Nepal was the first Gurkha to die during the conflict. Mr Rai was killed in the Musa Qala area of Helmand province when his patrol came under attack. He was from the 2nd Battalion The Royal Gurkha Rifles.
Arrests Over London Stabbing
Two men have been questioned over the stabbing of a man in south-east London. Nathan Douglas, of Grosvenor Terrace, Camberwell, died in Lebanon Road, Wandsworth in south-west London on Monday night. A 25-year-old man and 17-year-old youth were arrested at a south-east London address last night.
Motorist Dies In Crash
A man has died following a road accident in Fife, police have revealed. The incident took place on the A90 near Dunfermline at around 2.30am. The road was closed for several hours between junction one on the M90 and the Ferry Toll slip. Fife Constabulary are carrying out an investigation to try and establish the cause of the crash.
Man Charged Over Fincham Road Murder
A man has been charged with the murder of a 31-year-old woman. Merseyside Police has charged Brian Davies, 48, from Fincham Road, L14 with the murder of Claire Hanley on Tuesday, 4 November. Mr Davies will be appearing at Knowsley Magistrates court today. 31-year-old Claire Hanley, from Huyton, was found at an address in Sergrim Road at 10.45am on Tuesday, 4 November. A post mortem revealed that she died as a result of head injuries.
Appeal Following Fatal Road Accident
Surrey Police has issued a fresh appeal for information following a fatal road traffic collision in Addlestone last month. Karim Djeghali, 35, a French national who was visiting the UK, was killed in a road traffic collision with a white Mercedes lorry in Spinney Hill at around 2.55pm on Tuesday 21 October. Mr Djeghali’s family have been informed and detectives at Staines CID still urgently require information to trace his last movements. Mr Djeghali is known to have stayed at several hotels in the Stansted and Heathrow areas but it is not clear where he was staying from Tuesday 14 October to Tuesday 21 October. Anyone who has any information on this incident should contact DC Gamble on 0845 125 2222, quoting reference RM/08/4291.

Death toll on British roads rises by 2% in 2003
The number of deaths on Britain's roads rose by 2% between 2002 and 2003, according to the latest figures released from the Office of National Statistics (ONS) today. Statistics found that road deaths were up from 3,431 in 2002 to 3,508 in 2003. However, the total number of people killed or seriously injured fell by 6% to 37,215 people.

One lane of the M62 in Cheshire remains closed after a man died when he fell from a bridge and was hit by a lorry. The victim is said to be a 30-year-old man from Warrington, according to Cheshire Police. The incident happened at around 2.45am on Wednesday. Two lanes of the motorway were reopened at around 8.
