Man In Court Over Terrorism Offences

A man is to appear in court today charged with terror offences.

Neil Lewington, 43, of Tilehurst, Reading, Berkshire was stopped at Lowesoft station, in Suffolk, on October 30, after allegedly being abusive to a member of staff.

Bomb disposal experts were called to the station when police found suspect devices as they searched the man.

Mr Lewington was subsequently arrested, and is currently being held by anti-terrorist officers from the Metropolitan Police.

The 43-year-old is accused of having improvised explosive devices, timers, weedkiller and firelighters.

He is accused of five counts of recording or possessing information or documents likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism. Lewington also faces four charges of possessing an article in circumstances which give rise to a reasonable suspicion that his possession was for a purpose connected with the commission, preparation or instigation of an act of terrorism.

A folder containing drawings and handwritten notes, the Waffen SS UK Members Handbook - the combat arm of Hitler's paramilitary forces - and a book entitled Counter Bomb, were also allegedly found.

Lewington is due to appear before City of Westminster Magistrates' Court today.
