Elderly Woman 'Died From Hypothermia'

An elderly woman, who was tied up in her bedroom during a suspected robbery, has died of suspected hypothermia, according to police.

Eveline Kelmenson, 83 - known as Lina to family and friends - was found in her bedroom of her home in Leweston Place, Stamford Hill, N16 on New Year’s Day. Her legs had been bound with duct tape.

She had previously warned a neighbour weeks earlier that she was being pursued for cash.

Detectives said there were no obvious injuries, and added they were searching for evidence of a break-in at the east London property.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "Early indications are that Eveline died of hypothermia."

A post-mortem examination at The Royal London Hospital proved inconclusive and further tests will be conducted.

An incident room has opened under DCI Caroline Goode of the Homicide and Serious Crime Command. She said: "We need to establish Lina's last movements. I am appealing for anyone who saw Lina after 24 November to please come forward.

"I am also appealing to anyone who has information relating to Lina or indeed the circumstances surrounding her death to please come forward to police with information."

The house was said to be very cold when police found the woman and she had not been seen outside for several days.
