Karren Brady 'Vehemently Denies' Wrongdoing After Re-arrest

Karren Brady has denied any wrongdoing after she was re-arrested on Tuesday as part of an investigation into alleged corruption in English football.

The Birmingham City Managing Director who was arrested for a second time on Tuesday in connection with City of London Police's ongoing investigation into corruption in football, has "vehemently denied" any involvement.

Brady, 39, was first arrested last April, along with the club's co-owner David Sullivan. She was questioned by police and released on bail, at the time, as part of the ongoing investigation into conspiracy to defraud and false accounting.

A statement on the Coca-Cola Championship club's website read: "Birmingham City would like to confirm that Karren Brady has not been charged with anything and vehemently denies any wrongdoing.

"The new 'arrest' as stated by police this evening relates to exactly the same two players that both David Sullivan and Karren Brady have already been arrested and questioned for it simply confirms the police are alleging PAYE and NI offences in relation to these two players."

It continued: "In the fullness of time we believe the public will see that no offence has been committed by anyone at BCFC.

"The club continues to assist the police with their inquiries and have answered every question put to them."

A spokesman for the City of London police confirmed: "We have been working with HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) from the outset of the investigation.

"The investigation has always focused on money laundering.

"The Fraud Prosecution Service has identified that tax offences may be involved."

Mr Sullivan was not required to answer bail on Tuesday and Ms Brady was released on bail after being questioned.

Police said a total of six people were on bail as part of the inquiry.
