Winehouse Faces Assault Charge

Singer Amy Winehouse has been charged with common assault, following an alleged incident last September.

Winehouse is accused of assaulting a woman on 26 September following a charity ball in Westminster.

The 25-year-old, who has just returned from a long vacation, is to appear before City of Westminster Magistrates' Court on March 17.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: "Amy Winehouse, a 25-year-old singer of Hadley Wood, appears on bail at City of Westminster Magistrates' Court on Tuesday March 17 charged with common assault in connection with an incident at Berkeley Square on September 26 2008."

Winehouse attended the police station voluntarily, according to her spokesperson, who said the 'Rehab' singer was questioned by appointment in relation to an accusation made after the Berkeley Ball last year.

"She was charged with common assault and will attend a court hearing in the coming weeks," added the spokesperson.
