Body Part Discovered In Field

Police are investigating the discovery of a body part in a field close to a Leicestershire cemetery. The discovery was made on Tuesday in a field next to Hoby Road, in Asfordby, but officers have not released any further details. It came a day after police 80 miles away in Hertfordshire said walkers had found what is thought to be part of an arm in Drovers Lane, Wheathampstead. This find was linked to a leg found in nearby Cottered on 22 March. The area has been cordoned off and police forensic teams and search dogs have been brought in.

Missing Woman, 82, Found 'Safe And Well'

An 82-year-old woman who went missing, sparking a major land and air search in Aberdeenshire has been found safe and well. Police were becoming "increasingly worried" for Nellie Knowles, who had been missing from her home in Inverurie since about 2300 BST on Monday. A helicopter from RAF Lossiemouth was drafted in. Grampian Police said on Wednesday she had been traced safe and well in Inverurie.

British Gas New Energy To Acquire 19% Stake In Econergy

Centrica, through its British Gas New Energy division, has announced that it has acquired a 19% share of Econergy, for a cash consideration of £1 million. The deal includes the right to acquire the remaining share capital of the business over the next four years. Econergy is a leader in biomass heating, which replaces fossil fuels with renewable energy sources for combustion to produce heat. Econergy sells, designs, installs and maintains these systems for individual domestic properties, business and public sector customers. It also provides community solutions in the form of district heating schemes. The company's turnover for the year ended June 2008 was £5 million. The deal complements British Gas' acquisitions in 2008 of Solar Technologies Group Ltd and Semplice Energy Ltd, the equity investment in, and development and distribution agreement with, Ceres Power Holdings plc and technology partnerships with Baxi, Disenco and vPhase.

Teen Held For £27k Theft

A 16-year-old has been detained in connection with thefts worth about £27,000 in Aberdeen. The teenager was due to appear from custody at Aberdeen Sheriff Court on Wednesday. Grampian Police said he had been reported for a "crime spree" across the city. A spokeswomen urged householders to be vigilant and to lock and secure all doors and windows even when they are at home.

EDF To Takeover British Energy
The Government welcomed EDF's proposed £12.5 billion takeover offer for British Energy Group and the British Energy Board's recommendation of the offer to its shareholders. The Government has committed to accept the cash offer of 774p per share for its 36% stake held by the Nuclear Liabilities Fund (NLF), subject to certain conditions.

Police Investigating If Woman Was Trying To Save Dog When She Was Hit By Train
British Transport Police investigating the death of a woman have said that she may have been trying to save a dog when she was hit by a train. The 22-year-old woman was struck by a train close to Ainsdale station near Southport, Merseyside at about 15:00 on Wednesday. Transport police said a dog was also found dead at the scene.

The newly branded Ireland Police Rugby team will take on a British Police Select Team at Newforge in Belfast later today. The Ireland Police Rugby Team is a combination of members of An Garda Síochána and the Police Service of Northern Ireland.

British Man Dies In Dubai Police Custody
A British man has died in police custody in Dubai. Lee Bradley Brown, 39, from east London, died on Tuesday after he was taken to a Dubai police station where he was allegedly assaulted and put into a cell. It has been reported that Mr Brown, was arrested over a row at the luxury hotel Burj Al Arab hotel.

Body Found In Search For Missing Woman
A body has been discovered in Sutton Mill by police investigating the disappearance of Jennifer Hayman. The body was found at 18:00 on Thursday. Formal identification has not yet been made, but police said that Ms Hayman's family have been informed of the find. A post-mortem is due to be carried out to establish the cause of death.
