Rangers Star Injured By Exploding Egg

Rangers defender Kirk Broadfood has been treated in hospital after an egg exploded in his face, it has emerged.

The 25-year-old Scotland international was poaching an egg in the microwave at his home near Mauchline, Ayrshire, when the incident happened.

It is understood when he went to inspect the two eggs, one of them blew up, squirting hot water at him.

Rangers manager Walter Smith today confirmed Broadfoot suffered burns following the incident which happened on Sunday.

He added that he was treated at hospital for scalding to the cheek, but otherwise was unhurt.

Smith said: "He's got some facial burns but he should be okay."

A club insider also commented: "It was a close shave. He was very close to burning his eye which could have had a serious impact on his career."

The former St Mirren full-back - who joined the club at Ibrox in 2007 - had already been ruled out for the rest of the season due to other injuries.

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents said that according to data collected last year, 500 Britons needed hospital treatment after "egg-related incidents" in 2002.

A spokeswoman for the society said: "Our advice is always take care when dealing with boiling water in a microwave."
