Police Chief In Court
A West Midlands Police chief inspector has appeared in court in connection with a road accident in which a student died. Jamie Jones, 38, is accused of misconduct in public office, dangerous driving and failing to stop after an accident. Raymond Cheung died after being hit by a car on the A45 in Coventry in March. Mr Jones appeared at Stafford Magistrates Court and will next appear at Stafford Crown Court on 12 June. The Crown Prosecution Service has said the charges relate to Mr Jones' alleged actions after the crash, not in relation to causing Mr Cheung's death.
Man Dies After Loch Incident
A man has died after getting into difficulty while swimming in a loch on Monday evening. Barry McCourt, 20, died in hospital after emergency crews were called to Hogganfield Loch in north Glasgow. A search began at 5.15pm and Mr McCourt was spotted by the Strathclyde Police helicopter at about 6pm. A fire and rescue crew then rescued him from the water, before he was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary, where he was pronounced dead.
New Anti-Smoking System Rolled Out
The Department of Health is rolling out a new systems-based approach to improve stop smoking interventions in primary care. This new approach has increased referrals to local NHS Stop Smoking services by up to 49% in pilot areas. People who are referred to local NHS Stop Smoking Services are up to four times more likely to quit. The new approach was developed to ensure stop smoking interventions by healthcare professionals are routine and systematic, providing a tailored and consistent approach to patient referral.
Toddler 'Seriously Ill' After Accident
A two year-old girl is seriously ill in hospital after she was knocked down by a car in Fife. A spokesman for Fife Constabulary said the accident happened on Cowdenbeath's High Street at about 4.30pm on Monday. The toddler is being treated at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh. Police are appealing to anyone who saw the incident, particularly passing drivers, to contact them.
Millgart Police Open Day
Members of the public are invited to a special open day at Millgarth Police Station this Sunday to meet the local Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) and find out more about West Yorkshire Police. Those who attend can meet officers and police dogs and horses from the Dog Section and Mounted Section, and officers from the Firearms Support Unit, along with having the chance to discuss how Leeds city centre is policed with NPT officers as part of the Policing Pledge. There will also be a stand with representatives from Safer Leeds, the city's crime and disorder reduction partnership.

Six Arrested Over Nottingham Street Brawl Death
Police investigating the death of a 19-year-old man in Nottingham have arrested six people. Joshua Bradley, of Bulwell, died following a suspected street fight in Thurland Street, on 08 February. Two men, aged 21 and 19, have been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Riot police raided a former police station in central London on Tuesday as anti-G8 protests got underway. The former police station on Beak Street, off Regent Street, had been squatted by anti-capitalist protesters, who later accused police of heavy-handed tactics.
