Killer Jailed For 'Unprovoked' Stab Attack

A 38-year-old who stabbed a man to death in an unprovoked attack has today been jailed for a minimum of 17 years.

At the High Court in Glasgow, Jason McCrimmon, 38, was found guilty of murdering 42-year-old William Quinn.

He had knifed him through the heart at Rochsoles Drive, in Airdrie, North Lanarkshire, in June 2007.

McCrimmon was also found guilty of attempting to murder 41-year-old Peter Paterson.

The court heard the 38-year-old armed himself with a large knife when he arrived at Rochsoles Drive, in the early hours of June 23, 2007, looking for his partner, Joyce.

He threatened to stab people if she did not come out of one of the flats.

Mr Paterson tried to calm McCrimmon who later stabbed him in the neck.

When Mr Quinn tried to intervene, McCrimmon stabbed him in the abdomen and below the right armpit - a blow that pierced his heart.

He was also stabbed in the abdomen.

The court also heard there was no reason for the attack.

Jailing McCrimmon, the judge, Lord Turnbull, said: "The only sentence for murder is life imprisonment.

"In the circumstances of this particular offence it seems to me appropriate a long punishment period should be imposed."

McCrimmon was jailed for life and ordered to spend at least 17 years behind bars before he is eligible for parole.
