'Iron Lady' Breaks Arm

Baroness Thatcher has broken an arm after taking a tumble at her home today.

It was earlier reported that the former prime minister had been discharged from hospital, however, it is now believed she will kept under medical observation for a further 24 hours.

The 83-year-old was x-rayed at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital after arriving by ambulance this morning.

She was said to be badly shaken after injuring her upper arm.

An aide said early-riser Lady Thatcher was at her Belgravia home when she lost her footing and fell.

"You know Lady Thatcher. She was busy at home when she fell. In the process she injured her upper arm," said the aide.

Tests were carried out, and it was later confirmed her arm was broken.

Baroness Thatcher's daughter, Carol, last year revealed the 'Iron Lady' was suffering from dementia, and had taken several minor stroke over the past number of years.

However, the former prime minister still carries out many engagements. Last month the life peer had a private audience with the Pope.

Just this week the baroness attended a glittering ceremony at an exclusive London club marking 30 years since her elections as the UK's first female occupant of 10 Downing Street.
