Man Dies After Cliff Fall
A man has died after falling from rocks into the River Wharfe in the Yorkshire Dales. The 19-year-old, from Guiseley in Leeds, suffered head and back injuries. He died after being airlifted to Harrogate Hospital on Friday evening. According to witnesses at the scene, the man had been "tombstoning" - jumping from rocks in to the river. Police said he fell as he climbed up to the spot he had been jumping from.
Five Hurt In Rally Crash
Five people have been injured in an accident in Oxfordshire, when a rally car left a circuit. A photographer were among those hurt as the car careered off Abingdon Motor Sports Carnival. An 18-year-old man was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries, while two other men, aged 22 and 60, were taken to hospital with minor injuries. The driver and his co-driver were treated for shock and are now helping police with their inquiries.
Teen Killed Was Promising Footballer
A 17-year-old who died after being hit by a car in Aberdeenshire was a described as a promising footballer held in "high regard". Thomas Goodwin from Ellon, was knocked down while walking on the A90 Aberdeen to Ellon road on Sunday. He had recently signed with newly promoted Highland League club Formartine United. A club statement said: "His loss is absolutely devastating and our thoughts and sympathies are with his family and friends at this terrible time." It added: “Everyone who knew him held him in high regard."
11-Year-Old Boy Sexually Assaulted
A man has been detained after an 11-year-old boy who was playing football was sexually assaulted in Barry in the Vale of Glamorgan. The youngster was in Gladstone Park on Sunday lunchtime when he was attacked in an area known locally as Blind Park. South Wales Police said a local man was being held in police custody at Barry. Officers issued a description of the suspect who is in his 30s, of medium height and build. He had a black jacket and white T-shirt with a logo on it. They are appealing to members of the public who saw anyone matching the description of the suspect in the area of Gladstone Park at about 12.30pm on Sunday to come forward.
Consumers 'Boosting Car Industry With Scrappage Scheme'
Figures out today show that consumers are helping to boost the car industry under the Government's scrappage scheme. Over 60,000 orders have now been taken by manufacturers since the subsidy of £2,000 was announced in the Budget to scrap vehicles of 10-years-old or more. Business Secretary Lord Mandelson said: "Consumers know a good deal when they see one. These figures speak for themselves. Car manufacturers continue to report on the success of the scheme with rising sales. It’s the boost that the industry needs."
Driver Killed After Tree Crash
A man died when his car left the road and hit a tree in Northampton. The accident happened early on Saturday at the junction of Rushmere Road and Rushmere Avenue. Police said a Vauxhall Astra left the road and hit the tree, causing fatal injuries to the 29-year-old driver, who was from Northampton. Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash and would like to hear from anyone who saw the Astra in the area before the accident.

Two more arrested over attempted car bombings
Police investigating the attempted car bombings in London and Glasgow airport have arrested two more people. Two men, aged 28 and 25, were arrested in the Paisley area, west of Glasgow on Sunday night Five people are still being held in connection with the attacks, but it is believed that at least one suspect remains on the run.

Man Killed By Police Car In Reading
A man has died after being struck by a police car in Reading. A police officer also hit by the same car is being treated in hospital, his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening. Police say that the two men were struck by a patrol car responding to a report of a burglary in Eastern Avenue at about 01:45 on Wednesday morning.

Car Chase Man Jailed For Assaulting Police
A man has been sentenced to three years after threatening and assaulting police officers after a high-speed car chase. Keith Smith, 38, of Firbank Road, was found guilty of making threats to kill, assault causing actual bodily harm, dangerous driving and two charges of common assault, at Manchester Square Crown Court.
