Boys Held Over Fawn's Death

Three boys have been arrested in relation to the apparent brutal killing of a newborn deer in a country park in Dorset.

Three teenagers were seen to pick up the fawn, throw it to the ground and take turns to stamp on it in Upton Country Park.

Dorset Police arrested two 17-year-olds and a 15-year-old all from Poole.

The RSPCA collected the carcass and took it to Lynwood Vets in Wareham.

Dog walker Keith Arthurs witnessed the attack at Upton Country Park in Poole, Dorset, and called police. But he was too frightened to intervene, fearing he would have been attacked.

Keith, 51, said yesterday: "I saw one of them pick it up, while another smashed it over the head. They dropped it and took it in turns to stamp on it until it was dead.

"When they had finished, they turned away laughing and just sauntered off over the field.

"I've seen some horrible things but nothing matches up to this. Ten years ago I'd have intervened but I was scared they'd turn on me."

Widespread support has flooded in, with the University of California in the US offering to use DNA analysis to help catch those responsible.

While three donors have offered a combined £2,000 reward in an effort to catch the animal's killers.
