Arrests Made On Suspicion Of Drug Dealing
Three men have been detained by police in north Manchester on suspicion of dealing drugs.
The arrests took place at 4pm on Tuesday 16 June 2009 on the Smedley Fields in Cheetham Hill, after a police officer noticed three people on the field behaving suspiciously.
The officer approached all three suspects, and when other officers attended the scene two men, aged 18 and 19, and a 17-year-old boy were arrested on suspicion of supplying class A drugs.
They have been bailed until 13 August 2009 pending further police inquiries.
Thirty-five wraps of a substance believed to be heroin and 55 wraps of a substance believed to be crack cocaine were also found.
Meanwhile, four separate arrests have been made by officers tackling serious crime in the West Midlands.
Police said a 30-year-old city man was detained after a large quantity of cash and suspected Class A drugs were found in his car.
Three houses linked to the man - in Northfield, Frankley and Hawksley - were raided and further cash and suspected drugs were seized.
The man has been bailed pending further police enquiries and analysis of the seized substances.
During the police initiative - codenamed Operation Nemesis - a 20-year-old man was cautioned for a public order offence and another two arrests were made in relation to immigration issues.
Two men, aged 21 and 30, have been handed over to the Immigration Department.
A total of 48 motorists were pulled over by officers after their number plates registered on the police ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) system in a check along Stratford Road, Sparkbrook.
Eleven drivers were found to have no valid insurance resulting in their cars being impounded.
Sgt Amer Shams, heading Operation Nemesis, said: "This should send a strong message to the criminal fraternity that we are committed to tracking them down through a variety of policing initiatives.
"We want to reassure all members of our local communities that we are working to reduce their chances of becoming a victim of crime and making the areas where they live and work safer."

Seven-year-old stabs neighbour
A seven-year-old has stabbed a woman several times following an argument at a neighbours home. The woman had been in an argument with the boy's mother when he stabbed her in the arm, leg and buttock. The victim was treated in hospital for serious, though not life threatening injuries.

Speaking at a joint press conference with London Mayor Ken Livingstone in London's City Hall today, Sir John said that security services had trebled their efforts in an attempt to foil a possible attack.

British Man Dies In Dubai Police Custody
A British man has died in police custody in Dubai. Lee Bradley Brown, 39, from east London, died on Tuesday after he was taken to a Dubai police station where he was allegedly assaulted and put into a cell. It has been reported that Mr Brown, was arrested over a row at the luxury hotel Burj Al Arab hotel.

Man Arrested Over Kent Doctor's Murder
A 21-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the murder of a doctor in Kent. Consultant paediatrician Dr Victoria Anyetei, 54, was found in her car in the driveway of her home in Dartford on August 14. She had been stabbed to death. Kent Police said that the man was arrested on suspicion of murder at an address in Dartford.
