Martial Arts Expert Jailed For Killing Partner
A martial arts expert has been jailed for life with a minimum term of 16 years, for murdering his former partner.
Alan Jermey, 41, was found guilty of murdering Mercedes executive Kirsty Wilson on Friday.
During his trial at the Old Bailey the court heard how Jermey - a car salesman with a black belt in kung fu - attacked his former partner after she told him the relationship was over.
The jury heard Ms Wilson had an affair with her boss Simon Goddard. Mr Goddard had already left his wife and two children for Ms Wilson before her death.
The Old Bailey was told Jermey was "obsessive" about Ms Wilson and could not stand to let her go.
The 41-year-old knocked the victim out with a 100,000 volt stun gun - which he had secretly ordered over the internet - before killing her at their four-bedroom home as their two children slept upstairs.
He then doused her face and neck with petrol before setting her alight to cover his tracks, before clambering on to an extension roof with their two daughters as one of them cried: "I want mummy."
Jermey claimed in court he had gone to bed early and left Ms Wilson downstairs when he was woken by an explosion and was prevented from saving her by thick black smoke.
However, firefighters said that when they arrived there was only a few wisps of smoke and noticed he seemed calm and unconcerned about what had happened to her.
Jailing Jermey today, Judge Martyn Zeidman said: "You have done a wicked act, murdering the mother of your own young children.
"At the time of the murder they were just seven and three. They have been told that their mother is in heaven."
He added that he had "imposed a life sentence of weeping" on his partner's parents and caused a "devastating blow" to his children.

Man arrested over Bristol street stabbing
A 30-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the killing of a father-of-three who was stabbed to death in Bristol. Barry Wilson, 29, from Ilminster Avenue died after being stabbed in the neck and the heart outside his home, after he returned from an anti-crime family fun day on Monday.

Veteran US soul singer Wilson Pickett has died at the age of 64. The star, who was famous for hits such as 'In The Midnight Hour' and 'Mustang Sally', suffered a heart attack in Virginia. His management said that he had suffered from ill health for the past year.

Boys Held Over Fawn's Death
Three boys have been arrested in relation to the apparent brutal killing of a newborn deer in a country park in Dorset. Three teenagers were seen to pick up the fawn, throw it to the ground and take turns to stamp on it in Upton Country Park. Dorset Police arrested two 17-year-olds and a 15-year-old all from Poole.

The Prime Minister Gordon Brown has condemned the apparent killing of a British hostage held in north Africa, by al Qaeda militants. In a statement released by Downing Street, the PM said the government had "strong reason to believe" that an Al Qaeda cell in Mali had murdered Edwin Dyer.
