Man Found Injured By Roadside Dies

A taxi driver, who was found with serious injuries at a roadside in Birmingham, has died.

The man, aged in his 30s, was discovered in Wast Hill Lane, in Hopwood, at about 10.50pm on Wednesday. He died shortly after in hospital.

A 100-metre stretch of the residential road is closed, while a forensic tent has been erected in the cordoned off zone.

West Mercia police have confirmed a post mortem examination is due to take place shortly and an investigation has been launched into the alleged assault.

A spokeswoman said the dead man was from the West Midlands area.

Local reports suggest police believe the man's death was due to the attack.

Anyone who has any information has been asked to contact West Mercia Police or Crimestoppers.

A man arrested last weekend in connection with the July 7 London bombings has been charged with wasting police time. Imran Patel, 27, from Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, was arrested last Saturday, on suspicion of the commission, preparation or instigation of an act of terrorism. The arrest followed a tip-off from the ‘News of the World’.

A quarry worker has died following a "serious accident" at a site in Northumberland. It is understood the incident occurred at Harden Quarry, near Rothbury, shortly after 10.30am on Wednesday morning, 7 October. The accident is thought to have involved a tractor.

Man Arrested Over Police Threat
A 31-year-old man has been arrested in connection with threats made to West Midlands Police officers and staff on Tuesday. The man was detained at a property in the West Midlands by officers from the Counter Terrorism Unit, who are leading the investigation. He is currently being held in police custody.
