Missing Girl's Father Due In Court

The father of a nine-month-old girl who went missing from her Gloucester home is to appear in court charged with false imprisonment. Desmond Bacchus, 22, will appear before Cheltenham Magistrates on Friday. Malayah Delayney was reported missing after Mr Bacchus, from Birmingham, visited her at his former partner's home on Monday. The baby was found safe and well in the West Midlands area on Wednesday morning and returned to her mother.

Motorcyclist Dies In Crash

A motorcylist has died following a road crash in Salsburgh, near Shotts in Scotland. The 47-year-old man was riding his Suzuki motorbike on Newmill and Cantmill Road, at about 5.40pm on Thursday, when it struck a car being driven by a 68-year-old man. Strathclyde Police, said the biker died at the scene. They have appealed for witnesses. The car driver was treated at Monklands District Hospital for a shoulder injury and was later released.

Man Charged With Father Murder

A 30-year-old man has been charged with murdering a father who was found with stab wounds in the Vale of Glamorgan. Paul Michael Jones, 41, was discovered at a property on Columbus Close in Barry at about 10.00pm on Monday. He died later in hospital. South Wales Police said the charged man would appear before Barry magistrates on Friday.

Tragic Camberwell Fire Report Welcomed

Communities and Local Government Secretary John Denham today welcomed the publication of Sir Ken Knight's report into issues emerging from the Camberwell fire. Sir Ken Knight, the Government's Chief Fire and Rescue Adviser said: "Fortunately a fire of the type that occurred at Lakanal House, Camberwell with such tragic outcomes is a very rare event in England or the UK. I hope that the scope of the subsequent Coroner's Inquest will be wide enough to cover all aspects of this tragic incident to satisfy both the concerns of the local community and to ensure that lessons can be learnt for the future." Mr Denham's Department has the lead role in Whitehall in working with fire and rescue authorities to reduce fire deaths and injuries, and the oversight of the work of local authorities in their role as social landlords.

Man's Body Found At Foot Of Cliff

The body of a man has been found at the foot of a cliff on the Isle of Skye after a passenger on a pleasure boat reported seeing somebody falling. The boat was approaching Portree harbour at about 1.00pm when a member of the public raised the alarm. The body was later found at Tom's Cave at the foot of Ben Tianavaig. Northern Constabulary said the man's remains had been taken ashore by the RNLI lifeboat and inquiries were being carried out to identify him.

Heroic Tyne Firemen Honoured
Two Tyne and Wear firefighters are to be recognised for their bravery at a special ceremony today. Andrew Nelson and Allan Richardson will be presented with the Chief Fire Officer's Commendations for brave and meritorious conduct after saving a man's life. The men took part in a dramatic rescue in the early hours of 4 February.

Appeal After Man Found In Burning Car
Police are appealing for information concerning the death of a man found in a burning car. Officers were called to reports of a car on fire at Mowlem Trading Estate, near to Leeside Road, N17, shortly after 1:00am on 17 December 2008. The London Fire Brigade were in attendance extinguishing the fire when they discovered a person inside.

Firefighters launch four-day strike
More than 1,000 firefighters across Merseyside have begun a four-day strike in protest over planned job cuts. Another four-day stoppage is scheduled to begin two hours after the first one ends.

Suspicious Glasgow Car Fires
Detectives in Glasgow's East End are investigating a spate of vehicle fire attacks in the city yesterday. Shortly after 3.30am police were called to a report of a vehicle fire in Ashvale Crescent, Glasgow. Upon arrival police were advised by Strathclyde Fire Service that four vehicles had been damaged by fire.

Chief Fire Officer Resigns Over Child Porn Arrest
A top fire officer for the West Midlands Fire Service has resigned after he was arrested on suspicion of making indecent images of children. West Midlands Police arrested Frank Sheehan, 55, yesterday at his home in Sutton Coldfield.
