Arrests Follow £40m Jewellery Heist

Two people have been arrested in connection with the £40m armed robbery of a jewellery store in central London.

The Metropolitan Police have declined to release any details for "operational reasons" but the breakthrough was said to be "significant".

In what was the biggest jewellery robbery in the UK two gunmen wearing prosthetic make-up stole 43 pieces of jewellery from Graff jewellers in New Bond Street on August 6.

A female worker was dragged outside the store by the men, who fired two shots as they made their escape.

The men were captured on CCTV carrying out the robbery and visiting the jeweller two days before the heist.

Forensic specialists have been examining two cars and a motorbike used in the getaway, a discarded handgun and materials used to disguise the robbers.

The arrests are the second and third to have been made by police after the robbery.

A £1m reward has been put up in an effort to find those responsible.
