Retail Mess On Underage DVDs

Those who sell violent video games and 18-rated DVDs to children cannot be prosecuted because of a legal blunder 25 years ago. Dozens of prosecutions under a 1984 Act have been dropped because the then government failed to notify the European Commission about the law. However, previous prosecutions will stand, according to the Department for Culture Media and Sport.

Low Carbon Projects Confirmed

Details of the successful schemes for the second round of funding from the Homes and Communities Agency's (HCA) low carbon infrastructure initiative, totalling £8.80m, were announced today. The initiative, a partnership with the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) and Communities and Local Government (CLG), will provide funding for schemes across the country to benefit from new and existing low carbon energy plants by creating the infrastructure needed to link them up.

Military Accommodation Plan Launched

The Ministry of Defence aims to have all UK service families living in the highest standard of accommodation by 2020. The Ten Year Accommodation Management Strategy launched last week sets out plans for improving housing for both Service Families Accommodation and Single Living Accommodation over the next decade. Defence Estates will now target its major upgrade programme on improving 4,000 houses in the worst condition (Standards 3 and 4) every year for the next three years.

£19m Midlands 'Eco-Car' Fund
England's Midlands has been designated a new Low Carbon Economic Area (LCEA). To bolster the move, Business Secretary Lord Mandelson has pledged £19m toward the development of low carbon vehicles. Lord Mandelson made the announcement during a visit to the International Manufacturing Centre at the University of Warwick.
